1.The Brahms style is all about the inner pulse across long phrases — practice with a metronome on beat 2 only, not beat 1, to internalize the Adagio non troppo feel.
2.Vibrato must be continuous across bow changes — ANY audible break in the vibrato arc costs the round.
3.Bow distribution across the long arches: plan ahead, especially for the high point of each phrase. Most candidates run out of bow at exactly the wrong moment.
4.Intonation on the high register passages: practice with a drone on the tonic so the ear tracks against pitch center, not equal temperament.
5.Dynamic contour inside the melodic arch is the entire point — a straight-line dynamic reads as workmanlike at the principal-chair level.
