What does the RCM Level 1 violin exam involve?
Every RCM exam is marked out of 100 across four sections: Repertoire, Technical Requirements (etudes plus technical tests), Ear Tests, and Sight Reading. Sight Reading and Ear Tests are 10 marks each at every level. At Level 1, repertoire is 56 marks, technical 24, ear tests 10, and sight reading 10, for 3 repertoire pieces.
What is the pass mark for RCM Level 1 violin?
60 out of 100. First Class Honours with Distinction is 90 and above, First Class Honours is 80, Honours is 70, and a Pass is 60 (the pass mark rises to 70 at Levels 9 and 10).
Does RCM Level 1 violin need a theory exam?
No theory co-requisite applies until Level 5. From Level 5 up, the practical certificate is only awarded once the matching Theory co-requisite is also passed. Levels 9 and 10 add Harmony and History.
