The GMEA all-state packet includes audition etudes and scale requirements for each instrument. It is published annually by GMEA and available through school music directors.
When are GMEA District auditions?
District auditions run in the fall and the Final audition follows in January. Confirm the exact dates for your season against the GMEA statewide calendar, because school pages often carry the previous season's dates and venue.
Are GMEA string auditions blind?
GMEA does not state the screening posture for orchestra in anything we can verify, in either direction, so we will not tell you which it is. Ask your director how your district runs the room.
How competitive is GMEA All-State strings?
Georgia's string population is large. Chair placement in All-State is determined entirely by audition score; there are no geographic quotas.
How do I prepare for GMEA District auditions?
Pull the current GMEA packet as soon as it is released. Record a baseline take of each etude, identify your weakest dimension, and drill it daily.
